This was my chance to visit a cousin I hadn't seen in quite some time. Reba lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan--yet another beautiful spot we've been able to see on this trip. The pretty blue Victorian house is Reba's, and it sits right on the waterway that runs between Houghton and Hancock, Michigan. The jar of applesauce in Reba's hand was an accompaniment to the pork pie she served us for dinner. We've really enjoyed eating the dishes of the area--pork pie, pastie pies, and delicious smoked fish. Pastie pies are a meat pie in a flaky crust that can be eaten out of hand--they were introduced by the Cornish miners who helped settle the area. Delicious!
The picture of Tip, Jessie, and Cody was at our campground in Hancock, MI, where we were parked literally 10 feet from the water. Couldn't get any better than that! Other pictures are just to show some of the fall colors we've seen. They're about gone now, so we were lucky to get to see as much of them as we did. Also, a shot of Lake Superior and interesting stonework on a building we saw in Calumet, a town that was incredibly wealthy when they were still mining copper up that way. We traveled all the way to the tip of the U.P. to Copper Harbor along a highway that has been designated a historic scenic route. A really beautiful day trip!
